Abjectly Failed: The Current State of Trans Rights in the UK
A new talk for Trans Awareness Week, 13-19 November 2022
Over the last few years, trans people have become the focus of the growing so-called ‘culture wars,’ and have been vilified into a controlling lobby demanding excessive rights. But what’s the reality? In this talk, trans policy specialist and queer historian Eirnin Jefford Franks will delve into three areas of trans rights and consider the ongoing attack on trans rights to demonstrate the position trans people in the UK are currently in: one of constant attack, systemic discrimination, and increasing violence against us, with few rights and little recourse. I’ll then speak to how allies can help defend trans rights and support trans people, as we face one of the most physically and politically violent periods for trans people in modern UK history.
